Friday Cheers RVA 5/25/13   by: Rebecca Maguire

Richmond, Virginia Friday Cheers on Brown's Island with NO BS Brass, Murphy's Kids and Former Champions.

If you like live local music, these are the bands to see.  I was happy to see them all on the same bill at one of my favorite places in Richmond, on Brown's Island down by the James River.  It was a  beautiful day with excellent music, rapids, and kayaks.

The Former Champions started off the evening promptly at  6pm with their electro-fusion rock.  This band really appealed to everyone.  They hit the older crowd with music akin to old Harrisonburg's band Happy The Man, and they  appealed to the younger crowd with the electro and bass.  This band is quite impressive and I will definitely see them again.

Murphy's Kids are always a fun time.  I have had the pleasure to see them play all over the state of Virginia and they never disappoint. Their energetic brass infused ska, punk, rock is great.  They have the whole crowd singing and dancing along with John Charlet (lead singer) by the end of the evening.

NO BS Brass is a local band that just keeps improving!  At Friday Cheers  they were flawless! This is not your ordinary brass band and drummer.  They are amazing.  They have been written up in Time and Spin and are a band that defies a definition. Shore Fire Media just took on NO BS Brass after Reggie Pace (trombonist) got their attention when he played and toured with Bon Iver.  You need to check out their new fourth album RVA All Day. It will blow you away.
